MARGAO: In a daylight robbery, unidentified persons broke into a third floor flat owned by Banca da Gama in a building located near the Colva circle, Margao, on Thursday, and decamped with cash and gold ornaments worth nearly 30 lakh

The robbery is believed to have occurred between the morning hours and afternoon when there were no occupants in the house.

The incident came to light only at around 4.30pm when Gama returned home. She had gone to her sister's residence at Ambora, Raia, on Thursday morning.

"When she came back she found the door of her flat broken open and the flat ransacked," police sources said.

Gold ornaments and cash, both Indian and foreign currency, all worth nearly 30 lakh have gone missing from the cupboards, Gama has stated in her complaint. The cupboards were not locked which made the task easier for the robbers, police said.

A sniffer dog squad was pressed into service but no clues could be obtained.

Margao town police have booked an offence against unknown persons and further investigations are under way.

Gama stays in Dubai and had come down to Goa recently, police sources said.

Police suspect the same gang of thieves that have struck a number of places in Margao recently, as the modus operandi in this case and the other ones appears similar.
